The Sutherland Bothy
General view of The Bothy

The Sutherland Bothy was built in the summer of 2005 using locally grown larch and environmentally-friendly materials such as triple-glazed window units.

The Bothy measures approximately 7 x 4 metres and the wall height is 2.5 metres. The design echoes Scandinavian building styles where optimum light and good insulation are essential requirements for coping with the northern climate.

Bothy
Noun. (plural bothies)
A small hut or cottage. Origin: late 18th century, obscurely related to Irish and Scottish Gaelic both, bothan, and perhaps to booth.
